In 1498 Joanna was pregnant with her first baby. It must have been a quite stressful time for her. She often had fights with her husband Philip the Handsome because he was cheating on her and she was very isolated at his court. The treasurer took money from her so her 70 ladies-in-waiting did not receive what they needed. She must have felt very alone when she had her first baby under those circumstances in a foreign country. Everyone was hoping for a boy, but instead she bore a girl: Eleonore of Austria on 15 November 1498. This was only a couple of months after her elder sister Isabella died while giving birth to her first son.
good evening friends! Hilde
